Votes for Women

 November 5, 2017

Learn about Cranford’s early suffragettes who labored to give women the vote.

Did you know that ANTI-suffragettes outnumbered suffragettes 5 to 1 in the early 1900’s.

Most New Jerseyans thought that voting women would topple the democracy!  It took great courage

to disagree with the vast majority of their contemporaries and these Cranford women had it!

Read their words, see their photographs and look at the dresses they wore to combat prejudice against women.

All welcome.  Admission is free but donations are greatly appreciated.

If you have any questions, call the Historical Society’s office at 908-276-0082 or email us at

Cranford Historical Society Receives Grant from Wells Fargo

Cranford, N.J.-The Cranford Historical Society was awarded a $1,000 grant on Oct. 12 by Wells Fargo Foundation to

support the organization’s mission of to preserve and perpetuate Cranford’s history.  The community event was hosted by

Wells Fargo’s newly selected region bank presidents, Greg White and AZ Abdulghani, at the East Hanover Marriott in Whippany.

“We truly appreciate Wells Fargo’s support,” said Margaret Gerlach, President of the Cranford Historical Society.

“We will use this grant for our Cranford Historical Society History Award Scholarship Fund given each year to a
